The Final Product
Using only cardboard and glue you I have created an extension, or a ‘costume’, that transforms me into what i see myself as. A Monster. The concept was to make a mask that that covers my face, and extends down my back with scale, feather like shapes. The reason i chose to create a monster figure as a way to represent on how I see myself is to show my inner fights of self image, and constant struggle to show my true personality. I have a problem where i overthink everything i do or say, and sometimes my thoughts aren't the nicest or happiest especially about other people. I sometimes feel to fake, or blunt, and i feel like im not being true to those thoughts, especially with them being so prominent. I consider them Invasive thoughts, and they are, just they scare me. They can be a bit scary when you don't expect them, but they are completely normal to have. So with this piece I'm creating the monster i see myself as, but is normal to be.
This project wasnt supposed to be good, or look good. Its supposed to be horrendous and roughly put together. Representing how I see myself. The rough placements of the glue and the scale/feathers are purposeful.

Inspiration (in the works)
This photo from the movie, Howls Moving Castle (Studio Ghibli), is the inspiration for the feather like shapes that will drift down the mask covering my body. This movie is by far one of my favorites, and i wanted to somehow re-create part of the Bird that Howl turns into, in my piece.

The inspiration is very lose. And it really only inspired the use of a neck piece. I dont have much of a inspiration for the main mask, which comes from how I perceived myself to look out of cardboard.

Loose Sketches
My Process
- Looking at my sketches, i made base outlines in the cardboard before cutting them out. Sketching them out in the cardboard.
- I started working on the mask first. The mask is going to be the main piece of the cardboard cut out. I made an oval shaped base, before cutting out all of the shapes. The horns, the ears, and the feather like shapes all shape the face. For right now they were very flat, and the entire piece looks flat.
- I added the mouth pieces that looks like a beak to give the first 3D look to it, along with the curl of stripped cardboard pm the top of the head.
- I started working then on the shoulder piece as the final thing that needs to be added to the project. The feather shape will run down my shoulder in front of me, covering the side of my chest.

ACT
- Clearly explain how you are able to identify the cause-effect relationships between your inspiration and its effect upon your work? The inspiration was simply for the scale inspiration and the messy placements.
- What is the overall approach(point of view) the author (from your research) has regarding the topic of your inspiration? The over all approach i wanted to go for in this piece is showing how i see myself. The messy and unfinished look was supposed to be how i made the project. The monster i see myself.
- What kind of generalizations and conclusions have you discovered about people, ideas, cultures, etc. while you researched your inspiration? That being true to ones personal style and medium choice can create more of a creative boost than being refined to a project that is told to be created. That making a messy and unfinished look to a project can be meaningful.
- What was the central idea or theme around your inspirational research? The color choices and how to stylistically put that into play, staying true to my realistic, cartoon like approach to the reference.
- What kind of inferences (conclusions reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning) did you make while reading your research? That there is many things that can go into creating the meaning and the execution's of ones work.
